convoy of Libyan revolutionary fighters accompanied by CNN reporters came under fire in September 17, a few weeks before Libyan dictator Moammar Ghadafi was killed in a crossfire. The incident injured Ian Lee, one of CNN’s correspondents.

The CNN team was travelling with the fighters and other journalists on the outskirts of Sirte, hometown to former Libyan Prime Minister Moammar Gadhafi and the place where his loyalists gathered.  The team followed the anti-Gadhafi fighters going north to evacuate civilians.

For an unknown reason, one of the revolutionary fighters started firing which caused others to do the same. Counter-attacks from small weaponsand rocket-propelled grenades soon came after.

According to Phil Black, Lee’s co-correspondent, CNN journalists quickly pulled back after the two vehicles near them were hit. They rushed Lee to the hospital where he was treated for shrapnel in his ankle. Fortunately, he was in high spirits while he talked to his family over the phone.

There was at least one casualty from the group of paramedics that was part of the revolutionary team.
