Floyd
Mayweather defended himself for cussing out Larry Merchant,
HBO’s long-time boxing commentator, during a post-fight interview last
September 17.
Merchant,
who has been with HBO for 30 years, repeatedly questioned Mayweather’s victory
over Victor Ortiz for the WBC welterweight title. This annoyed the 34-year-old
boxer, who then vulgarly told Merchant that he should be fired from
HBO for being clueless about boxing.
Mayweather
bagged the title after knocking out his opponent with two
critical punches. However, Ortiz claimed the referee had already called a break
before Mayweather made his winning move.
In
response to Mayweather’s words, Merchant retorted he would have put up a fight
against Mayweather had he been 50 years younger.
During
the press conference held after the fight, Mayweather told reporters he did not
regret the rude words he used
against the veteran commentator.
