A nationwide karaoke chain has recently opened karaoke booths in Tokyo for those who want to sing solo.

The idea may seem peculiar since karaoke is meant to be enjoyed by groups of people. However, this new kind of karaoke—known in English as 1Kara—allows the user to practice their karaoke abilities without facing too much embarrassment and self-consciousness.

The new karaoke rooms contain a chair, a microphone, headphones, and a small screen where the lyrics are projected. The booths also offer free alcoholic beverage to their customers. Each room is priced at about 600 yen per hour from 10:00am to 6:00pm, then between 6:00pm to 6:00am, cost peaks to around 1200 yen per hour. Special packages priced at 2,600 yen are also available from 12:00mn to 5:00am.
