Online student transcripts will soon be available for Delhi University (DU) students.

To avail of the service, students will have to register and pay online. Upon registration, they will be given a personal identification number (PIN) by the university. This gives them access to their transcripts found in the DU server. The students can then give their PIN to any university or school that they wish to apply to. A hard copy of the student’s transcript can still be provided upon request.

This initiative will benefit students who are planning to study abroad, and in general, make things more convenient for everyone. Transcripts dating before 2013 are also in the process of being transferred online. The senior official at the exam branch of Delhi University says that if everything turns out well, the project can be launched as early as December 2015.

Availing of online transcripts is expected to be cheaper than the delivery of hard copies. However, DU will still have to give their final decision on the rates.

Digitalization of transcripts is just one of the recent education trends that were discussed at the IdeaFestival 2015. The IdeaFestival is a conference held every year at the Kentucky Center for the Arts in Louisville. Its purpose is for people to share and exhibit their ideas. During the 2015 conference, Todd Zipper, head of a company that aids in building online programs for colleges, says that other than just degrees, digital transcripts can be improved by also including what the student can do professionally.
