Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan unveiled their philanthropic projects as they welcomed their newborn baby, Max.

In his post in December last year, the 31-year-old entrepreneur announced the birth of their first child Maxima Chan Zuckerberg. Together with this announcement, he also wrote that he and his wife have pledged to give away 99% of their Facebook shares to various charitable projects.

About a month before Max’s birth, Zuckerberg wrote a post on Facebook about the two main goals he and Chan have in mind for their philanthropy work. The couple aims to unlock human potential and promote equality by making long-term investments in several areas, especially in education and health.

One of the couple’s major plans is to focus on financing new schools that promote personalized learning, a teaching style that adjusts to a learner’s needs. They also want to support some public school projects, such as the Education Super Highway, which hopes to provide Internet access to every classroom in America.

Chan, who is a pediatrician and former teacher, created a school called The Primary School in East Palo Alto, California. This institution follows the K-12 system that includes kindergarten, primary education, Junior High School, and Senior High School. Aside from education, the school will also provide healthcare to low-income students until graduation starting August 2016.
Aside from their healthcare project in The Primary School, the couple also offered a $75-million gift to the new San Juan Francisco General Hospital, where Chan worked for several years.

For Zuckerberg, health and education are closely related. According to him, all of their efforts are dedicated not only to their daughter, but to all children of the next generation.
